Frequently Asked Questions

Will you pick up the injured, orphaned, or trapped animal I have?
Not usually. Most of the year we are extremely busy feeding and treating injured and orphaned animals. The time and funds spent traveling takes away critical resources and personnel from the animals that are already in our care.
In critical instances, we may pickup depending on the situation, staff availability, and location.

We never come out to remove nuisance or deceased animals. Please call a local wildlife removal service.

Will I receive an update on the animal I dropped off?
We are happy to provide release updates upon request. Health or medical updates will not be provided.
Can I come visit the animal i dropped off?
No ;-). The less human interaction, the better for the animals.
Will the animal be released where it was found?
Some animals are returned to the area they were found while others are relocated to safer areas.
Can I keep the animal to rehabilitate it myself?
Not legally. Although we can not enforce the law, we have a moral obligation to the animals and to the public to discourage  keeping animals removed from the wild. Many of these animal carry zoonotic diseases and parasites, some of which can be deadly to people and other animals.

If the animal in your care is discovered by authorities it will be confiscated and it will likely be too domesticated for release and have to be euthanized.
DO I have to donate to drop off an animal?
No. Our drop-off form requires you to indicate the donation amount because we have to record all donations received. You have the option to type in a "0" if you are unable to make a donation. We will always take in animals that we are authorized to take, have the capacity to care for, and  that we feel we can successfully rehabilitate  without a donation.
How are donations used?
Your donation, no matter how small, goes a long way. Whether you donate your time, make a monetary donation, or donate supplies,100% of your donation directly supports the care of the animals.

More specifically, monetary donations are used to purchase medical supplies, building materials for enclosures, food, and to keep mountains of laundry clean and soft for bedding.

Currently, 98% of the work we do is funded directly by us. We do not work for TWRA or receive government grants for our service.

Any donation you provide to help us continue to care for Middle Tennessee wildlife is much appreciated.
